The 2007-2008 season was an eventful season. It was my first season on the board and as Vice President, full of challenges and excellent rewards. One of the biggest challenges was serving as both Vice President and President when our President, Matt Dunlap, relocated to Southern California.
Artistically, we produced three solid productions and increased our audience for the season by 30%. Continuing our tradition, we finished the year in the black. (To date Redwood Theatre has always operated in the black.)
We started the “Cast and Crew Benefit Night” to provide a small financial reward to the actors and crew that contribute their time and energy to our theatre.
Our marketing efforts now include this e-newsletter, as well as an improved web site.
This past season saw the strengthening relationship with two neighboring theatres: Evergreen Family Theatre and Woodinville Repertory Theatre; together we support each other, co-produce events and bring theater to a wider audience.
We welcomed the support of ‘mo magazine as a season sponsor and Penske Truck Rental, who provides us with trucks for load-in and strike.
Redwood Theatre received grants from the Redmond Arts Commission and 4Culture.
Looking Forward
The 2008-2009 season is our 25th Anniversary, and we have a great one planned. We begin the season with Emlyn Williams’ 1937 psychological drama Night Must Fall followed by Beth Henley’s Pulitzer Prize winning Crimes of the Heart. Our Spring musical will be announced shortly, but I can say that we are very excited that if all goes as planned, we will have a West Coast premiere.
We begin what we hope is a long and fruitful relationship with Faith Lutheran Church of Redmond, where we now hold auditions and rehearsals.
As part of Redmond’s Recreation Guide, we offer a stage management class called Stage Manager 101 starting in September. We hope to continue to offer classes in a variety of subjects throughout the year.
Continue our relationship with Caffee Lusso, provider of the excellent coffee enjoyed by our patrons.
This season we will also have one performance of each production signed for the hearing impaired. This, added to our fully accessible theatre, allows us to continue to make quality theatre available to a wider range of individuals.
