I am honored to have been selected President Redwood Theatre again, especially in this, our Silver Anniversary season. That’s right 25 years of providing great live theater entertainment to this and the surrounding communities! Our first production of the season Night Must Fall has been cast, rehearsals are being run and the set is being built in preparation for an October 10, 2008 opening. This will be followed by Crimes of the Heart, to open on February 6, 2009. We will be ending our 25th anniversary season with a musical. However, this will not just be any musical, it will be the West Coast Premiere of Illyria.
I am also excited to see all of the positive changes that have taken place during my absence away from Redwood Theatre. These improvements are the direct result of the tireless efforts of our great volunteers. I’m further excited to see the great group of sponsors who have contributed so much to our theater. The commitment of these volunteers and sponsors shows their great love of theater and their desire to keep high-quality, live theater productions available as well as affordable within the local communities.
In particular, I am just amazed by our on-line presence and how it has grown from just a static website to a Facebook site, a Myspace site, an online newsletter and a live, interactive website with new information being added all the time. At times, I wonder what will happen next?
Some items I will be focusing on this year will include looking for additional corporate sponsors so that we can continue to provide the kind of quality theater you have come to expect. We are also in the process of obtaining a Liquor License, so that we can provide quality beverage (Wine & Champagne) service 30 minutes prior to opening and during intermission. To this end I have begun talks with an unnamed local winery to serve their wine once we obtain approval from the State and the City of Redmond. I can’t wait; I just love a great glass of wine.
If you are wondering, what can I do or how can I help? The answer is easy. Send us an email. We are always looking for volunteers to assist with anything from ushering to building sets. Just let us know how you are interested in helping keep community theater alive.
Thanks again for your continued support and patronage of Redwood Theatre and we look forward to seeing you soon.
