Taking place in the final years of the cold war, it is the story of an American chess champion, his Russian opponent who defects to the west, and a Hungarian born American who transfers her affections from the American to the Russian without bringing happiness to anyone. Chess is a stunning rock opera where the ancient game becomes a metaphor for romantic rivalries, competitive gamesmanship, super power politics and international intrigues. Lovers, politicians, and spies manipulate and are manipulated to the pulse of a monumental rock score that includes “One Night in Bangkok”, “Heaven Help My Heart”, and “Someone Else’s Story.”
